Using Adobe Illustrator, I could cut out the Razer Logo onto 3 types of vinyl. I made separate files for each part that I wanted in one color of the vinyl. I weeded out the letters and symbol, and put it on the cover of my Chromebook. During this rotation, I got to be a lot more comfortable with using the Vinyl Cutter, and have even made a couple of decals outside of the Individual Assignment.
Razer is a company that makes gaming-oriented computer mice, keyboards and headsets. Just recently, they updated their logo. I thought it would be cool to make a Vinyl decal out of it.
Brainstorming
To start, I decided which letters I wanted to make which color. At first, I wanted to use green, black, blue, red and sparkly vinyl. Later, I realized that I could just use black, green and reflective vinyl instead.
Using Adobe Illustrator
I used Adobe Illustrator to turn the new Razer Logo into a black and white vector image.
After turning the base Razer Logo into a vector image, I decided to separate the parts of decal that I wanted in one of the vinyl flavors. I cut away everything but the snake logo. I copied and pasted the logo a couple of times and lined them up so I would waste the least amount of space making it on the vinyl cutter and saved it as a new file.
I went back to the original logo and decided that I wanted to have the outside letters R letters and inside Z to be the color black. I cut away everything but these letters and saved it as a new file.
I went back to the original logo and chose the two vowels A and E to be the color green. I cut away everything but these two letters and saved it as a new file.
I tested making the several snake parts of the logo on the reflective vinyl. Before I started making the other parts, I wanted to make sure that these turned out okay.
Redesign
Sadly, I made the first round of decals too small, and they were hard to separate from the backing paper. Another thing that hurt this process was that there was a small trade mark sticker at the bottom of the snake that I had to remove before I could get the decals removable.
After making the snake logo larger and removing the TM mark, I was able to successfully remove the logo and make it able to stick onto my Chromebook.
I used the vinyl cutter to make the rest of the Razer letters and get them lined up in order. I was relatively difficult to get them all strait and not have any wrinkles or have it fold over itself.
Results
Overall, the vinyl decals stuck on nicely to my Chromebook and look very nice I like the contrast between the black and green letters, and the way that the reflective Snake logo pops out at you.
